If you enable the Beta Feature for "可视化差异", you will have a new option. It will give you a new box at the top of every diff page. This box will let you choose either diff system on any edit.

In the visual diff, additions, removals, new links, and formatting changes will be highlighted. 而更改图片大小等其他变更则会注记在旁边的备注栏中。

- The 2017 wikitext editor is available as a Beta Feature on desktop devices. It has the same toolbar as the visual editor and can use the citoid service and other modern tools. The team have been comparing the performance of different editing environments. They have studied how long it takes to open the page and start typing. The study uses data for more than one million edits during December and January. Some changes have been made to improve the speed of the 2017 wikitext editor and the visual editor. Recently, the 2017 wikitext editor opened fastest for most edits, and the 2010 WikiEditor was fastest for some edits. More information will be posted at mw:Contributors/Projects/Editing performance.
- The visual diff tool was developed for the visual editor. It is now available to all users of the visual editor and the 2017 wikitext editor. When you review your changes, you can toggle between wikitext and visual diffs. You can also enable the new Beta Feature for "Visual diffs". The Beta Feature lets you use the visual diff tool to view other people's edits on page histories and Special:RecentChanges. [1]
- Wikitext syntax highlighting is available as a Beta Feature for both the 2017 wikitext editor and the 2010 wikitext editor. [2]
- The citoid service automatically translates URLs, DOIs, ISBNs, and PubMed id numbers into wikitext citation templates. It is very popular and useful to editors, although it can be a bit tricky to set up. Your wiki can have this service. Please read the instructions. You can ask the team to help you enable citoid at your wiki.

What's new?

Recent changes
- es.wikipedia, es.wikibooks, sv.wikipedia, and simple.wikipedia get ORES predictions on Recent Changes (and on Watchlist through "用于编辑复核的新过滤器" Beta feature). [4][5][6][7]
Problems
- The explanation of the abbreviations on the recent changes page could overlap with the list of changes. This has been fixed. [8][9]
- On Related changes it was not possible to use Saved filters for several articles. It has been fixed. [10]
- Transclude special:relatedchanges on a subpage removed #contentSub. This is now fixed. [11]

Recent changes
- The wording when you send a thanks message has changed. Instead of
是or否it says感谢and取消. It is also now easier to understand that all thanks are public. [12] - A notification is now sent to account owner on multiple unsuccessful login attempts. [13]
Problems
- Between week 7 and 20 February, when you thanked someone for an edit, the thank went to the latest unthanked edit to that page. It didn't matter which edit you tried to give thanks for. This has been fixed. [14]
- Long page titles on Special:Notifications were not truncated. This is now fixed. [15]

- You can now press CTRL + ENTER to post a new message. [16]
- It wasn't possible to create a description of a Structured discussions board. This has been fixed. [17]
Problems
- On wikis using the Beta feature, it is not possible to enable or disable Structured discussion from the Beta page. However, admins can create and move the pages.

ESEAP Conference 2018
Hello all,
Scholarship applications for ESEAP Conference 2018 is now open!
ESEAP Conference 2018 is a regional conference for Wikimedia communities around the ESEAP regions. ESEAP stands for East, Southeast Asia, and Pacific. Taking place in Bali, Indonesia on 5-6 May 2018, this is the first regional conference for the Wikimedia communities around the regions.
Full scholarships are subject to quotas, maximum two people per country and your country is eligible to apply, visit this page.
We also accept submissions of several formats, including:
- Workshop & Tutorial: these are presentations with a focus on practical work directed either to acquiring a specific skill or doing a specific task. Sessions are 55 minutes led by the presenters in a classroom space suitable for laptops and work.
- Posters: A2-size format to give news, share your community event/program, set out an idea, propose a concept, or explain a problem. The poster itself must be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons with a suitable license.
- Short Presentation/Sharing talks: 10-15 minutes presentation on certain topic.

- Significantly (on average to 1/4th) reduced the number of changes from Wikidata showing up on the watchlists and recent changes on Wikipedias and the other sister projects. This way changes that do not affect an article should no longer show up. We're still holding off roll-out to Commons, Cebuano, Waray-Waray and Armenian Wikipedia because of scalability concerns.

Hello friends and colleagues!
The WMF Community Resources team is closing one of our smaller funding programs, Travel and Participation Support (TPS) [1]. TPS will no longer accept applications as of May 1, 2018.
Some background: TPS was created in 2011 as a movement outreach program. It reimburses travel expenses for Wikimedian volunteers who present about Wikimedia at non-Wikimedia events. Its closure comes as a consequence of the grants restructure following our 2015 Reimagining Grants consultation. [2] As we have redesigned our grant programs to better meet the needs of our stakeholders, we are no longer resourced to support TPS as a separate program.
We will continue to support travel requests as part of our other grant programs, as follows:
Rapid Grants will now fund travel requests for non-Wikimedia events from individuals for up to $2,000 USD, prioritizing applications that include all of the following:
- Wikimedian presenters who have a special area of expertise in relation to their target audience (for example, a psychology professor who is sharing about Wikimedia projects at an academic conference for other psychology professionals)
- outreach activity with a training component and a plan for online follow-up providing ongoing mentorship and support (editing training, editathon, etc.)
- regional travel requests under $2,000 USD

Conference and Events Grants will continue to support travel scholarships for Wikimedia events. Note that this funding is awarded to conference organizers who then manage requirements for participants. Latest news from the Wikimedia Collaboration team, about Map improvements 2018, Notifications, Structured discussions and Edit Review Improvements. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you.
What's new?
The Collaboration team has announced the start of a new project: In-Context Help and Onboarding. The idea is to improve retention of new wiki editors by giving them short tutorials and other training experiences related to, and triggered by, their current activities on the wikis (that’s the “in context” part). The project follows from the conclusions of the New Editor Experiences research. The work is in its very early stages, but we’d like to hear from people with ideas on the subject—particularly if you have experience supporting or training new contributors.
Map improvements 2018 [More information]
- Maps using Maplink and Mapframe functions now include an extra zoom level (level 19). This is part of the Kartographer Improvements, the number one request of the 2017 Community Wishlist survey. [37]

- Number of edit to show in recent changes information text was incorrect in Special:Preferences. It has been rephrased. [38]

Recent changes
- You can notify users in edit summaries. They will get a ping just as if they had been mentioned on a wiki page. That new feature has been documented. [39]
- Preferences panel on Special:Notifications was overlapping other elements. This has been fixed. [40]

- An important work is under progress to allow thanks of log entry. This is done by the Community Tech team. [41]
Structured discussions [More information • Help pages]
Recent changes
- Structured Discussions extension has been uninstalled from wikis not using it. However, it is still possible for a community to request a trial of Structured discussions. [42]
Problems
- It was not possible to opt-in and opt-out Structured discussions on wikis using it as a Beta feature. It is now fixed. [43]
Future changes
- The visual editor and 2017 wikitext editor interface is going to change for consistency. The toolbar, dialogs and menus will appear slightly bigger; some icons will look different. Content or functionality will not change. That change will apply to Structured Discussions as well. [44]

2017年跨语言研究“描绘维基百科读者行为”研究成果第一部分公开
致中文维基百科社群的伙伴们：
在 2017-06-22 到 2017-06-29 期间，由维基媒体基金会的研究人员Leila Zia主持之研究案，针对中文维基百科的部分读者进行抽样问卷调查，现在研究成果第一部分出炉，可供中文社群更加理解下列三块中文维基百科读者群像——（一）阅读维基百科的动机；（二）读者所需资讯的状态；（三）在阅读前有多少比例的读者已熟悉相关主题（即具先备知识）。在此我们简要与各位说明中文维基百科的调查成果，完整的研究资讯可参考此元维基的英文页面。
问卷题目
原始问卷的题目范例可参考此连结截图，受访者在问卷中要回答三个问题。这三道题目是以先前的这份英文研究为基础设计而成，当时我们建立了维基百科读者群像的分类(taxonomy)。问卷在呈现给每一位不同的受访者时，其中的题目以及选项都会随机调换顺序。
收集资料
在问卷调查期间，中文读者的抽样比例为1比20，总回复问卷数为6575份。
